Hedgehogtri events 2016 - a reprise . . . .Entries 2017 open Nov 1st
The season is now complete for 2016 and we thank all those that have taken part in the events this year. What's more the weather was also good for all of them and that is a first.
The Haywards Heath Sprint Triathlon started the season in April, a chilly but sunny start to the racing, closely followed by the Ardingly White Bird Triathlon based at the College and reservoir. Some great performances at both these events and it is great to see so many people getting into the open water swimming. Which leads me to the 'Swim the Lake' event held at Ardingly Reservoir in late June, a record turnout in 2016 and lovely evening to swim the 3km.
On the KIDSTRI events we had record turnouts at East Grinstead & Horsham Triathlons with many more new novice competitors than in previous years. Billingshurst in July saw the change to a Duathlon and although a reduced number competed it was enjoyed by all taking part in something slightly different.
In September we were In Bognor Regis for the first time which went down very well with a ready made transition area and a nice FLAT large sports field as well as a large 8 lane pool. To finish off a week latter we were at the lovely Roedean School in Brighton for the Aquathlon. A breezy day and a tough run on the hilly sports field.
Our charity this year is Chestnut Tree House and they will be getting £430.00 raised through the raffle at each of the triathlons. The main prize in each raffle was a new road cycle which was sponsored by InGear Cycles, based in Forest Row, E. Sussex my thanks to Pete Roberts for helping 4 children hopefully improve their cycling now that they are proud owners of a new machine.
There was a KIDSTRI Series this year for the first time, with winners in each Tristar and Youth categories and overall winners Harry Lee (swim 1st TC) and Devon Moffatt (Kidstri Training) get to hold the Vera Tigg Cups for 12 months, well done to them. All the winners can be viewed on this LINK.
Finally, most of the children's events this year had help from local clubs to help ensure they ran smoothly, this assistance is imperative and I hope more clubs will step up to the mark to assist in 2017. This year my thanks goes to East Grinstead Tri Club (for East Grinstead), Horsham Tri Club (for Horsham) and Horsham Amphibians Tri Club (for Billingshurst). It is great that adults triathletes want to give something back to the sport and help the young people get hooked on triathlon just like we all are.
My last thoughts are of thanks to the friends & family volunteer that have assisted me at all the events this year. The Hedgehogtri Team, THANK YOU!
An event does not run without a good Team of volunteers behind it. We are always on the look out for new people who care about triathlon, racing and competitors. If you can help out at ONE event or more, your assistance would be much appreciated.
If you are looking to do something other than just take part then join us to get involved in the other side of races. If your injured or just taking a break from racing then we could do with your help, we will feed you, train you, and you'll have fun. Join the main Team and get the t-shirt, jacket, cap, expenses, food and more in 2017. More details here
